Hi Friends! Its Alli here! Can I just tell you that I’ve been loving all the great workouts, foods, and challenges this month for our
Focus on Fitness February
As I mentioned in one of my last posts, I have almost a decade of working in the weight loss industry. And even though I have been submerged in all things health and fitness, I struggle with my weight. Sure, its definitely more since becoming a mom, but that’s no excuse. I wouldn’t change a thing about those sweet babies, and to be honest, I didn’t put on a terrible amount of weight during either pregnancies. Its the after part that has taken its toll on me. The tiredness, the change of schedule and my biggest challenge – the limited time to squeeze in a workout. Yep, I’ve got all the excuses!!! 🙂
As part of the Focus on Fitness February, I decided along with all you, that its time to refocus on my health and wellness and the necessity of getting in some sweat time. So rather than start slow, I jumped in and signed up for one of the scariest workouts (for me) I had heard about. Barre !

Barre Workout
Do you know what a barre workout is all about? Barre is the latest trend in workouts based around ballet barre. Of course each studio does it slightly different, but its a combination of yoga, ballet and Pilates and the results give you long lean muscular dancer physic! I’LL TAKE IT!!!
Of course, my current muscle definition is the opposite of long and lean, and from those I have heard that have taken a barre in the past have described it as “killer.” Scary for a person not in shape and worried about not being able to do anything.
Against all fears and apprehension, I did it. I called up my friend Amy from Fit in 60 here in San Diego and talked to her about my fears and she convinced me to come in and give it a try.
Can I just tell you, I’m so glad I did! It is my new favorite. I’m sore in places I haven’t been sore in quite a while, but I feel strong and good coming out of the class. The soreness is a muscle sore, not a straining or an ache of any kind. It feels fantastic! What I love about barre is that the strengthening is basically done purely using my own body weight and the resistance, rather than needing a ton of equipment. We’ve used small exercise balls and bands for certain moves to increase resistance but really all the moves can be done on your own. AWESOME!
Have you ever tried Barre? What did you think?
Again, I’m aware there are differences from studio to studio, but for Fit in 60, I just loved how supportive the instructors were and how the studio is light and airy and makes me happy as opposed to some of the dark and grimmy gym’s and other classes I have taken in the past. Nothing like trying to convince yourself to go to a jail to workout 🙂
Sorry for the iPhone pics from above. I was slyly trying to take pictures without everyone thinking I’m a little nutty. 🙂
For those in San Diego, I have some exciting news. I have a free month of Pure Barre classes at Fitin60 to giveway so that you can try it too! WOOOHOOO!!!
You are seriously going to love it! And if you win the free month, there is no excuses not to try! They have two locations. One in Carlsbad Village and they other in Carmel Valley!
