Quick story from this past weekend that I need to share on kids water safety because it has had me pretty shook up still . See this cute face above? See how he’s standing in less than a foot of water (the 1 in the background)? So it was Friday evening and we were at a local pool getting ready to head out for the hubs birthday dinner. I’m dressed in skinny jeans and a blouse (totally relevant to the story). I send the husband to go check on something while I watch the babies. This little one walked to reach a water toy and his feet swung up behind him. He began to float of course (thanks to the orange contraption strapped to his chest). The issue was that he didn’t know how to put his feet down. He’s looking at me and I can start to see the panic in his eyes. I’m at the edge of the pool (in my jeans) talking to him and trying to get him to put his feet down. Poor little babe got nervous and put his head down into the water and started blowing bubbles. OH DEAR GOD. First off, I’m thankful that he knows how to blow bubbles and blow the water out of his mouth, but this is crazy!! Within a second or two of looking around hoping the husband who was in shorts could help, and another look from this sweet boy who must have thought he was floating out to sea, I jump in and pick him up.
You hear of these stories when kids drown in less than a foot of water either in a pool or bathtub, but it s hard to understand until now. It can totally happen!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!! For the love of all that is holy, PLEASE keep your FULL attention on your kids even in a shallow pool. YOU ABSOLUTELY NEVER KNOW what could happen! Keep the kids safe, please!!
