I often get asked by readers, family and friends, how I handle working at home. Well my friends, its not always easy, but I thought I’d share a little insight in how this Made with HAPPY Mom juggles work and play.
Personally, it has been quite the transition from working in a corporate setting, to working at home. I went from working for a company to working for myself. I went from having kids in daycare, preschool, school everyday, to having them home with me (most the time). I went from having others setting deadlines to making my own deadlines. I went from having two calendars (business and personal) to having one very large calendar. Okay, so you get the picture, its been a transition. As a self-proclaimed objector to change, its taken me some time to come to realize that this has been the best personal (career) decision I have made in my entire life, but so freaking hard too. SO MUCH CHANGE!The next question I typically get is “how do you find balance?” In all honesty, there is no real balance, but rather juggling. Lots and lots of juggling. I like lists, I like calendars, I like excel…. oh I love excel. But really its about multi-tasking. I am hyper-conscience about the time my kids are home. I do my best at being present and shutting down the electronic, but part of juggling is knowing the times you have to multi-task and fit work in. If it means bringing the Intel 2 in 1 to the pool while they cannon ball, then so be it.If there is a webinar you have to be on while the little one colors, don’t make yourself feel guilty about it. Do what you need to do.
I am a professional juggler my friends! That is what its like to Work and Play as Made with HAPPY Mom!
How do you work and play? I’d love to hear!
