Sees Candy is to California as Beignets are to Louisiana. They started in California over 90 years ago. To say they are good is, well an understatement. They are a family favorite of ours for as long as I can remember. My grandma was a HUGE chocolate lover, and I mean HUGE. She would order her chocolate dessert before dinner, just to make sure they the kitchen wouldn’t run out of what she wanted. She (and the family) moved to East Coast when I was about 10, and I distinctly remember when she would come back to visit. We would jump in the car to run errands and inevitably we would end up at the Sees Candy store at the far end of town. Ahhh, the smell when you walk in there. Yes its chocolate, but it has its own distinct chocolate smell. Its rich and inviting and to this day makes me feel like I’m 10 again looking around to the person behind the counter dressed in all white who would reach down and hand my sister and I a sample. YUMMM!!!
Last week, Sees opened a store in San Diego at the Fashion Valley Mall. I consider myself Lucky McLuckyson for sure to be asked to come for a special pre-opening-opening where we get to learn more about Sees and try our hand at packing the boxes.
How fun is that? We had our own “I Love Lucy” moment packing the chocolate and learning some of the tricks of the candy trade. So much fun. I tell you, the smell was exactly as it was 25 years ago (don’t do the math)
I did do some recon and the manager told us that they are starting to extend toward the east. Not sure when in the plan their coming, but they will get there. Until then, come visit in California and we’ll gladly point you in the right direction.
