My heart sinks lately when I think about how fast my baby girl is growing up. Maybe its all the emotions flowing through me at almost 8 months pregnant, but my eyes are starting to well as I write this.

As a kid, I look back and it makes me think of the saying "Growing up is a hard thing to do". I would tend to agree. Going through all the different stages and learning and growing is tough road. Now that I'm a mom, I realize that its even harder to be a parent through it all. Holy Cow... I'm sorry Mom and Dad for not realizing it till now!!!

Okay, so where am I going with this.

Sunday afternoon was spent in the pool, riding bikes and playing around the back yard. My sweet girl has decided that she's now going to be adventurous and hike around our back yard. For those that don't know, a big portion of our backyard is on this embankment with lots of trees, bushes, dirt and all kinds of different paths and such.

She started up the hill, and with a quick glance Craig and I looked at each other to say, should we let her explore? As scared as it made us, we both decided that we needed to let her do this. So of course my heart is beating out of my chest watching her set out to explore by herself. She hikes up the large embankment making her way through the trees and brush and slowly wanders her way to the garden seat up towards the top. It was surprising to us both how nervous we were for her. It was a satisfied feeling making us glad we let her do it, but nervous as you know what! She got to the top and picked flowers and sat on the chair and sang, all the while we were pretending not to watch every single move she made.

Made my heart swell thinking how fast she is growing up. It certainly helped the heart a little to know she needed our help to get down =)  but it sort of felt like a turning point. OH MY GOODNESS... this parenting things is not for the birds!

Do you remember a defining moment like this with your kids?
