I was super excited to have the opportunity to go to the sneak peek of the Maleficent movie coming out tonight. There have been a lot of questions send to via social media, so I figured I'd give you all a review of the movie from my point of view.
For those unaware, Maleficent is the untold story behind Sleeping Beauty. Angelina Jolie plays Maleficent, the one who ultimately puts Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) under the sleeping spell.
First and foremost, its a fabulous movie and I highly recommend it! For those asking about children, I would say that the movie is somewhat dark and does contain some violence. I have small children (2 and 5) and I can tell you I definitely would not let them see it. My nephews (10 & 11) on the other hand, they would be okay. Of course, this is totally up to the parents and each child. There were some 10-12 year olds in the theatre with us and they said they enjoyed it. If your children lean towards being scared by darker films, then I would hold off and watch it yourself and decide then.
The movie was constantly moving and the plot kept you engaged. Angelina was excellent as Maleficent and now that I've seen, I cannot picture anyone else playing that role. I adored Elle Fanning as Aurora and really enjoyed every minute of the film. I purposefully had not read up on the movie before going to go in with an open mind. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
The animation and cinematography were breathtaking. My eyes were in awe of all the beautiful scenes.
Again, overall opinion of the movie is a definite two thumbs up. In terms of taking children, its certainly up to you, but do know that it is dark and that there is violence.
If you see the movie this week, I'd love to hear what you thought!!
