    air freshener set up
    air freshener complete

I took this picture a couple of months ago, while we were in the midst of potty training. Potty training… Ahhh!! I was convinced that our son would be the only one in college still wearing diapers. I am happy to report that I am now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. This picture says so much about the kind of boy my son is. It also helps to explain the need for me to get this bathroom smelling fresh, and an easy DIY all natural air freshener was just what it needed .
We all know I am a big fan of essential oils. I have found them to be incredibly helpful and healing for my family in so many ways. To make this natural air freshener, all you need is a mason jar, baking soda, a fave essential oil, and a piece of material. I used an essential oil called Elevation. It's my current fave-an uplifting scent that has a citrus base.
Pour ¼ cup of baking soda into the jar. Drop in 5 drops of essential oil. You can always add more if you'd like a stronger scent. Then top with the material and screw on the band or secure with a ribbon or rubber band. I used a piece of burlap because I wanted it to be super breathable- remember, I'm trying to deodorize a potty training bathroom. That's it! See what I mean, super easy project!

After I put the jar in the bathroom, I could smell the oil right away. Such a refreshing change. After a couple of hours I popped my head back in and took a big whiff. I couldn't smell anything. At first I was bummed, but then I realized that the baking soda had done its job and deodorized the bathroom. Yeah!! I swirled the jar a little and could smell the oil again. I walked out victorious; looking forward to the next time I have to go in and read a book about how big kids use the potty for the 152nd time.
