For this round of all natural beauty routines, I thought I’d share with you my new favorite face wash-Raw Honey. I had been reading about all of the great benefits of Raw Honey: tons of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. I also learned from the blog on Minimalist Beauty that it has a natural pH of 4.5 which makes it perfect for your skin. It apparently is also great for skin problems such as acne, rosacea, and eczema. It is extremely important that you use Raw Honey for this. The other honey, found commonly in the shape of a bear, has been heated. Doing this causes it to lose a significant amount of the things that are so beneficial about it to begin with. I’ve been doing this little face wash experiment for almost two months now. I wanted to make sure that I actually liked it and had good results before I shared it with you. I think it’s funny that my husband doesn’t even question why there are kitchen items permanently on our bathroom counter. Here’s the honey that I buy, but I know that there are many other brands out there. Just be sure to read the label and make sure that it is in fact Raw Honey.

Washing your face with honey is definitely not rocket science. Just scoop out about 1 tablespoon and massage it in your hands for a little bit to make it more spreadable. Sometimes I add just the tiniest amount of water, especially in the morning after a cooler night. I find that it helps make it more spreadable by thinning it out just a bit. I massage it on to my face in a circular motion using my finger tips. Time for yet another extreme close up selfie. Whoaaaa!! (Side note: I think that Wayne’s World is a must for all movie collections. How do I not own this yet??)
I have two different routines for morning and night. Morning Routine: After rubbing the honey on my face, I let it sit for a few minutes (I usually take this time to go and make my coffee). It acts as a light mask and makes my skin glow nicely. After a few minutes use a wash cloth and warm water to rinse off. You’d be surprised at just how easy it is to come off. Night Time Routine: After washing off my eye makeup I rub the honey all over my face and massage (again in a circular motion) for just over a minute, concentrating more on any “problem” areas that may pop up. Then, just as in the morning, I use a wash cloth and warm water and rinse off. Once a week I add an exfoliation step. I tried to exfoliate more than just once a week, but found that my face was too sensitive for that. I do it on Sunday nights so that I won’t forget (serious case of mama brain). To exfoliate, I add about 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the honey that’s thinned out in the palm of my hand. Then gently spread on my face a massage in a circular motion for just over a minute, once again paying extra attention to any areas that might need the extra help. Please note that you have to be really gentle when washing this off with the wash cloth. Although the baking soda is so light, coming from experience, it hurts if you rub it off too harsh.
From the first time I used Raw Honey to wash my face I noticed a difference. I immediately loved everything about it. The smell, the moisturizing, and the way my skin felt so smooth and glowed after each rinse. At first I had a couple of “problem” areas come up, but from what I’ve read, that’s totally natural, as it is your skin balancing out to its new routine. I would definitely recommend using Raw Honey as a face wash.
