We find it quite comical that we threw him a baseball birthday for this first birthday. And now 5 years later, he loves it so much he wants another one!One of the things I found quite interesting once we started to plan for the party, was that many "party supply" shops do not carry solo baseball theme party supplies. Like the bouncy, the party supplies come in a lot of general sports themes. Quite strange to me. In any case, that just means that I did a lot of the research for you! 🙂
One of my favorite things for parties, and kids parties even more so, is to make sure that all the foods are finger foods. Kids and utensils don't always mix, so rather than wasting plastic utensils for a party like this, skip it all together and make it finger food.
The one exception for this party was the cake. There were two reason I went for the cake instead of the cupcakes.
- We had a ton of kids at this party. We had almost 40 kids (I KNOW, CRAZY TOWN), so a half sheet cake fed the kids and their parents.
- I took Parker with me to pick out decorations, and apparently when you turn 6, you all of a sudden have very strong feelings about the specific cake 🙂
The big hit from the party was the pretzel wall. I will be sharing the fun how-to on this shorty.
The last food piece to the cubs birthday party bonanza was shelled peanuts. Definitely make sure there are no peanut allergies (of course), but then placing those out in cups was super fun for both kids and adults. For the games, we setup some fun relays including spin on the plastic bat a few times. Balance a wiffle ball on a plastic spoon. Toss the ball into the bucket and the every popular, squeeze the balloon between your knees while walking to the other side and back. I'll give you one guess as to what almost every 5 and 6 year old did with that balloon. YEP, sat on it and laughed. It was pretty funny.
The party was a lot of fun and we all can't wait for the Cubs to make it to the World Series again this year! Even out here in San Diego! HAPPY 6th BIRTHDAY MY SWEET BOY!!!
