It certainly can be debated about the best liquor to serve when looking for a signature drink or Christmas cocktail recipe that appeals to most. As we age, our taste buds tend to evolve and our preferences can change.
For the most part, vodka drinks make the best Christmas cocktails as vodka tends to have the mildest flavors. With simple ingredients, you can make delightful Christmas cocktail recipes that are sure to be the hit of your holiday celebrations.
We're sharing our fun Mistletoe Martini that is great in a martini glass, ornament, or in a large pitcher as a Christmas punch. Grab the easy recipe in the recipe card at the bottom of the post to make sure you're set with a festive holiday cocktail for your next holiday party!
Ingredients for Festive Christmas Cocktail
- Large Plastic Christmas Balls (Dollar store)
- Fresh Cranberries
- Orange peel
- 1oz Cranberry Vodka
- 1oz Triple Sec
- 2oz Cranberry Juice Cocktail
- Fresh Rosemary Sprig
How to Make Christmas Vodka Cocktails
The first thing to talk about is the glass you are planning on using. We are using these large clear plastic ball ornaments. We found them at the Dollar Store and absolutely love them. If you are planning on serving them in a copper mug as one might with Moscow mules, then you can freeze your cup for a bit before to make them extra cold.
Otherwise, if serving in a glass, then you should decide if you are going to rim the glass with anything. With this cocktail, I think a sugar rim on one side is always fun! You simply dip your glass rim in simple syrup or vodka and then sugar and it should stick. Once you have your drink decided, here is how we like to make these mistletoe martinis.
Start by adding a few fresh cranberries to the ornament or glass.
In a cocktail shaker, add ice cubes, vodka, triple sec, and cranberry juice. Shake to make sure the flavors mix well.
Strain into your ornament or glass.
Add a sprig of rosemary and orange peel and serve!
Variations of These Holiday Drinks
With any drink recipe, there are always variations that can be made to each of the ingredients.
Variations of Vodka
This recipe uses cranberry vodka. The recipe works great with non-flavored vodka as well as other flavored vodka. It really has to do with your favorite flavor profile. If you're looking for more holiday flavors, you can try vanilla vodka.
Variations of Triple Sec
Triple sec is an orange liqueur and so if you are looking for an alternative, then any citrus liqueurs would be great. Or if you would like to remove it altogether, a dash of orange juice or lime juice can cut the cranberry juice.
Variations of Cranberry Juice
One question we get is whether you can use unsweetened cranberry juice instead of a cranberry juice cocktail. You absolutely can use unsweetened cranberry juice but you should note that unsweetened is very tart.
Only one ounce is needed or if you are looking to interchange the two, test the sweetness and add in simple syrup till you get the desired sweetness.
You can also replace cranberry juice with pomegranate juice. It definitely has to do with what you prefer.
Adding Fizz to Your Holiday Cocktails
The last variation is in case you want it to have a little fizz to your drink. Then add an ounce of ginger beer.
