My daughter and I were recently invited up to Lake Tahoe's Squaw Valley for the Helmets are Cool event. While the trip was short, we had a great time exploring Squaw Valley and are excited to bring the boys back for a full family vacation.

A busy ski resort at Squaw Valley, with numerous people in colorful winter clothing. Skiers and snowboarders gather at the base of a snowy slope lined with snow-covered evergreen trees, while a ski lift carries thrill-seekers up the mountain.

Squaw Valley is an incredible ski resort located in Lake Tahoe which is right on the border of California and Nevada. It's about 45 minutes from the Reno airport and just over 3 hours from San Francisco.

Having been the adventurous snowboarder back in my college years (oh man that made me sound so old) it is true. I would fly or drive off to snowboarding adventures quite a bit in my youth. My adventures took me up to Lake Tahoe for a few different winter trips, but never to Squaw Valley. Now that I've been, I am shaking my head as to why not. It's AMAZING you guys!!!

What makes it so amazing you might ask? Well, here are a few reasons I think it's a great place to visit as a family.

Visiting Squaw Valley as a Family

At Squaw Valley, a snowy ski resort, people in colorful gear gather at the base of the mountain. Skis and poles are lined up in the foreground as a ski lift ascends amid snow-covered trees, all under a bright blue sky with scattered clouds.

    World Class Sking and Snowboarding

They held the Olympics here back in 1960 and it maintained that world-class culture ever since.

There are terrains for all levels and all ages.

From the comfort of a cozy, wooden-framed bed adorned with white pillows and sheets, enjoy the serene view of Squaw Valley’s snowy landscape. Gaze out the window to see trees blanketed in snow and a trailer nestled quietly in the backdrop.

Everything is within walking distance. Lodging, restaurants, shopping, and all kind of fun activities. This is key when traveling to the snow with the whole family.

A snowy landscape in Squaw Valley features a yellow building, snow-covered trees, and a steaming hot tub surrounded by a black fence. The scene suggests a cozy winter retreat.

It's challenging enough getting yourself geared up for skiing/snowboarding and getting your gear to the mountain. Add little ones to the mix and it becomes exponentially more complex. So when everything is within walking distance, you cut down on the complexity a ton.

Lodging - Red Wolf Lodge at Squaw Valley

The Red Wolf Lodge is an awesome place to stay. It's ski-in/ski-out and located right across from the village with easy access to restaurants, shopping, and HELLO, did I mention ski-in/ski-out!!!

The snow-covered landscape of Squaw Valley features a large building on the left, surrounded by trees and mountains. People walk along a paved path, while a dog frolics on the right. The sky is blue with scattered clouds, adding to the serene beauty of this winter wonderland.

As you can see from the pictures above (from the windows) the views are spectacular. The lodge offers studio rooms, and one and two-bedroom condos. They have full kitchens which are so great when traveling as a family. They have a hot tub and a full entertainment room.

A snowy street in Squaw Valley features people strolling between charming buildings. Snow-covered mountains rise majestically in the background, while scaffolding adorns one of the structures, adding a touch of rustic development to the wintry, picturesque scene.

The Lodge also host lots of fun resort activities throughout the week like happy hours, movie nights, wine and cheese socials, and more.

The village is right there and has some great restaurants and shopping. So awesome.

A child in a pink snowsuit sits on a ski lift-style swing, enveloped by the snowy landscape of Squaw Valley. In the background, skiers gracefully glide down the pristine slopes.
A child in a white winter coat and hat playfully stands in a large pile of snow at Squaw Valley, with a stone building behind. The area is blanketed with snow, and a trees bare branches add to the wintry scene.
A young girl kneels on the snow in Squaw Valley, wearing a white winter coat, matching hat, and pink snow pants. She holds snow in her gloved hands, smiling amidst the picturesque outdoor snowy scene.

There are lots of great activities in addition to skiing and snowboarding. They have tubing, mini snowmobiling for 6-12-year-olds, they have snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and aerial tram rides. SO MUCH FUN YOU GUYS!!!

People gathered around an outdoor fire pit near the snowy ski resort at Squaw Valley. Red chairs surround the fire pit, and skiers are seen walking in the background under a bright blue sky.

We seriously cannot wait to head up to the mountain with the whole family soon. It's one of those places that after you visit once, you will for sure make it an annual trip.

    Enjoy!
