Summer is almost here friends! You know what that means…plenty of warm beach days, fun by the pool, long nights with s’mores, and lots of hours to fill while the kids are home from school! You know we LOVE a fun coloring page. We also love subtle (and not so subtle) empowering messages that (hopefully) seep into the growing brains of our kids. That is why we are so excited to share our Be a Unicorn Coloring Page. What is more fabulous than a unicorn on a swan float, sipping a drink with star sunglasses on? Not. A. Thing!
Coloring Pages For Kids
Kids of all ages will love this coloring sheet with lots of room to get creative and colorful. Coloring is a great activity if you need to keep both bigger kids and smaller kids entertained.
It’s also a great way to spend some time relaxing with your kids. Coloring has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety levels, improve sleep, and improve focus. It’s also especially beneficial to young kids who need to strengthen their fine motor skills.

History of Unicorns

Most kids probably know a unicorn is similar to a horse with a single horn. They may know they do not have wings and if they do, they are called Pegasus. But they probably don’t know that unicorns were written about as far back as Ancient Greece and they appear in stories all over the world – even in Europe and Asia. Unicorns have captured the imaginations of people for centuries!
Unicorns are said to represent purity, innocence, freedom, and power. It is said that unicorns absorb energy through their horns and can then use that energy to heal the sick. Who wouldn’t want to be a unicorn?! Unicorns are even the official national animal of Scotland. Pretty cool!

Coloring Activities
If you’re looking to extend this activity, we’ve got a few more ideas. Grab your favorite markers. You can gather a few of your favorite free Made With Happy printable coloring pages and put them together to make a huge coloring book. You could also use a combination of coloring pages and original drawings or paintings to create a colorful picture book.
If you want to reinforce some of their school learning, you could ask your kids to make up a story to go along with the Be a Unicorn coloring page. If they are too young to write, they can tell you the story while you write it down.
When they want to practice math skills, create a super simple activity book. Combine coloring pages with a few unicorn-themed math word problems or equations. You could even use the unicorn coloring page as a jumping-off point for science experiments. Have you tried skittles in water? Hint: they make a colorful rainbow. Or simply bring some magnifying glasses (or a prism) and white paper out in the sun and create rainbows by refracting the light.
