How to Make Your Hot Chocolate Bomb

Here are our step-by-step instructions on how to make a hot chocolate bomb.

    three melted chocolate bowls

In three separate, microwave-safe bowls, melt the candy melts in 30-second increments, stirring in between. This will take 60-90 seconds.

adding melted chocolate to round silicone mold

Once they are completely melted, spoon about ½ Tbs of each color into each half-sphere chocolate shell.

cover the half circle with chocolate

Using the back of a spoon or a pastry brush, lightly swirl the colors together and spread around and up the sides of the mold. Don’t swirl too much, just 3-4 swirls or the colors will start blending and there will not be a noticeable difference between each color.

    set in the fridge

Let set in the fridge or freezer for about 6 minutes or until hardened. As a precaution, reinforce the top edges of each half-sphere with a little bit of the remaining candy melt. Let sit for a minute until they are hardened again. Gently remove each half-sphere from the molds.

fill the chocolate cups with pink hot chocolate

In 6 half spheres, spoon 1 Tbs of the strawberry chocolate milk powder.

Add unicorn sprinkles to chocolate cup

Top with 1 teaspoon of sprinkles

    add marshmallows into chocolate cup

Add a handful of mini marshmallows.

fill all the cups with strawberry hot chocolate bombs

Place a small, microwave-safe plate into the microwave to heat for about 45 seconds.

Place an empty half sphere onto the plate for a few seconds until the edges start to melt

Place an empty half sphere onto the plate for a few seconds until the edges start to melt.

Place the empty half onto the corresponding filled half ensuring the edges meet evenly all the way around.

Then place the empty half onto the corresponding filled half ensuring the edges meet evenly all the way around. Run a clean finger around the edge to clean up any excess candy melt.

Making Hot Chocolate Bombs with White Chocolate

    chocolate bomb

I have been asked if instead of using the colored candy melts for this recipe, can it be made using white chocolate? The answer is absolute, yes!

Whether it's white chocolate chips or a white chocolate bar, the idea is the same. Melt the chocolate over a double boiler. Removing the chocolate from the heat, then transfer it into three different bowls.

You will need to grab a few different colored food coloring gels. Add a few drops into each bowl and mix into the melted white chocolate till it gives you the color you desire.

Repeat with remaining 5 spheres until all of the cocoa bombs are assembled.
