What's sun-kissed in a spiky yellow-gold shell with a perfect sweet-and-tangy flavor profile? Yes, a pineapple! It's a summer party staple in most homes, especially on pool days. And why not? It's so super refreshing.

This year, however, pineapples weren't only a part of our grand fruit platters. We've been turning them into creative and delightful art pieces. From a pineapple planter to a pineapple doormat, there's so much we tried our hands at. And trust me, we learned so much along the way. Let me tell you more.

    What Will the Kids Learn

Contrary to popular belief, crafting isn't only fun and games. It's a great way to teach kids exciting facts, improve their fine motor skills, and boost their creativity. Here's what the kids will learn with this pineapple craft during the summer break:

    creativity in kids

    Creativity

Kids think differently than us, which is perfect. Use this project to boost your kids' creativity. Let them:

    • Use different colors for their cute pineapples
    • Make an entirely different pineapple shape
    • Create a different story to go with the craft
    • Use hand shapes to make pineapple leaves
    fine motor skills for kids

    Fine Motor Skills

Crafting is just as much for young kids as it is for the older ones (or us). Using craft supplies like scissors helps them grip and cut better, which in turn helps build their fine motor skills.

    That's not all. Crafting also:

    • Strengthens hand muscles
    • Improves hand-eye coordination
    • Increases attention span
    • Helps kids compare the sizes and shapes of things

Now that we know how crafting can help kids grow let's learn a few fun facts about these yummy fruits.

    Pineapple Fun Facts

If you have older kids, tell them these fun pineapple facts and watch their eyes light up:

    • Pineapples are a symbol of hospitality and friendship
    • A pineapple grows and matures in almost three years
    • A pineapple plant lives for fifty long years and continues giving us this yummy fruit
    • You don't need a seed to grow a pineapple; just twist the crown and plant it in the soil
