Dogs have a wide range of personalities, and your drawing can capture their individuality. Whether you want to draw a playful and mischievous pup or a wise and gentle senior dog, your artistic choices in line, shading, and facial expression can convey its unique character.
By adding details like fur texture, collar accessories, or a favorite toy, you can tell a story through your artwork. So, as you embark on your dog-drawing adventure, keep in mind that each stroke of your pencil is an opportunity to bring out the personality of your four-legged subject.

How To Draw a Dog Step-By-Step
The drawing is a cute cartoon-style dog and gives a basic idea of a dog sketch. You can later add more details to it and color it. Your kids will have a few good practice times, and soon they'll be drawing a dog like a pro!
Dog's Head

Start with an oval shape of the dog's head.
Dog's Front Legs

Next, draw a curved line off the bottom of the dog's head to the paw, and then create another front leg with a slightly wider part at the top.
Dog's Ears

Next, draw two floppy ears off the top of the head. We went with small curved lines, but if you rather it have more pointy ears, draw them that way.
Dog's Back Leg

We decided to draw a sitting dog, and so we drew each hind leg with a horizontal line (side to side) rather than a vertical line (up and down) as if it were standing. Curve up the back feed with a small curved line.
Dog's Tail

Next, we finished the dog's body up to the other side of the dog's head and created the dog's tail with a simple curved line.
Dog's Face

Start the dog's face with two circle shapes for the eyes, and then one larger circle for the dog's muzzle (mouth and nose).

Next is to add the facial features. Draw two circles for the eyes and a simple oval shape for the dog's nose. For the mouth, draw a straight line down from the nose, and connect it to a simple curved line smile.
Outline of the Dog

Once you have your drawing exactly how you want it, we recommend tracing over all your lines with a sharp pencil and even outlining it all with a black marker!

The final step is to use markers, crayons, pencils, or paints, and turn your drawing lesson into the cutest dog drawing!
