Celebrate Mardi Gras with Kids
Fat Tuesday is always fun to celebrate with the kids. We like to celebrate with a small mardi gras party with a king's cake and mardi gras games.
Mardi gras otherwise known as Fat Tuesday is a day to mark the celebration and feast before fasting and lent starts the next day. The next day is called Ash Wednesday, the first day of the 40 days of lent leading up to Easter.
There are celebrations for Mardi Gras all over the country, but the largest occur in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama. Don't forget to make your own Mardi Gras Masks and download our free Mardi Gras Coloring Sheets either!
Supplies For Mardi Gras Day Bingo
This bingo game is similar to a traditional bingo game in that all you will need:
- Bingo cards – Download the free printables at the bottom. Remember one per person or one per team
- Calling sheet – Included in the download, cut them out and mark as you call each item.
- Bingo markers – We've included 80 printable markers that will just need to be cut out. Or if you forgo using our markers, you can use something small like gold coins or Hershey kisses
- Prizes – I have put together a list of fun Mardi Gras prizes, also at the bottom of this post to get you started.
How Do You Play Mardi Gras Bingo?
Playing bingo is a fun game throughout the year. At our house, we loved to store our bingo games with our game bingo boards and pull them out each Fat Tuesday and play throughout the day.
The first step is to download the Mardi Gras free printable bingo cards. Once you have downloaded them, print them out. One for each person.
Cut out bingo cards as well as all the calling cards and markers. Pass out the bingo cards and place calling cards into a hat or bowl and mix them up.
Set the rules for each game.
Hand out markers, coins, or any small item to use as a game marker. This is when each item is pulled from the calling cards and is on the player's bingo card. Mark each that is called. The middle space on each board named “Free Spot” is each person’s first space they are given for free. Pull a calling card out and describe the player and the item. King, Noise Maker, Drum, etc.
Once a player has completed a row or set pattern, they yell "Bingo" and they win that round. Have some Mardi Gras Fun with it!
