Mardi Gras Celebrations
Mardi Gras is french for Fat Tuesday. This is the day before the Christian holiday of Ash Wednesday, which is the start of Lent. Lent is the time before Easter when people often fast from eating meat and other items.
Therefore there tend to be lots of celebrations for Mardi Gras. In New Orleans and places around the world, these celebrations include parades, masks, and lots of traditional foods.
To add to the fun of your celebration, we have free printable mask templates at the bottom of this post where you can print and decorate your own mardi gras mask.
Traditional mardi gras colors are gold, green, and purple, but you can make your own masquerade masks in whatever color you want and use whatever kind of flare. Included in our mask templates are feathers, sequins, and other fun other items you can color and glue to your masks. Have all kinds of fun making your own masquerade mask and let the good times roll.

How to Make a Mardi Gras Mask
Start by printing out your own half-masks with feathers and sequins.
Color in the masks and flare as coloring pages
Cut out the mask shape and do not forget the eye holes. An easy way to cut the eye holes is to poke the scissors in the middle of the eye and then cut your way out to the edge and then continue around the eye hole. Cut out the feathers and sequins as well
Glue sequins on the front of the mask as well as the glue feathers to the top and sides of masks.
Once you are happy with your beautiful masks, using the hole punch, punch a hole on each side of the mask. Cut the piece of elastic string. In order to measure your string, I recommend holding each end of the string at your temples with it going around the back of your head. Tie each end of the string to the holes on each side of the mask.
Another way to make this mask is to use a popsicle stick instead of an elastic string. After you finish creating your own DIY mask, glue the popsicle stick to the back of the mask on one side. The mask will be held up by the popsicle stick like they do at a masquerade ball.
