Groundhog Day Fun Facts
Groundhog Day is folklore celebrated on February 2nd each year in both the United States and Canada. The belief is that on this day, the groundhog (woodchuck) emerges from his burrow in the ground.
If the weather is clear and the groundhog doesn't see his shadow, then he will retreat back into the ground and there will be six more weeks of winter. If the weather is cloudy on that day and he does see his shadow, then early Spring is around the corner. It's a fantastic thing to have hope that warmer weather is on its way.
A Groundhog Day ceremony is held at Punxsutawney in western Pennsylvania on February 2nd every year and the holiday is celebrated across North America. Celebrate Groundhog Day with your kids and include these suitable word searches.
