Fun Facts About Cherries
Kids question! And, believe it or not, your answers stay with them for a long, long time.
Use these amazing facts about cherries to keep the kids engaged. These facts will also help you prepare for the inevitable question/answer session.
- Cherries grow on trees. Some cherry trees produce sweet cherries, while others bear sour ones. Sour cherries are smaller and have a dark red tone.
- A cherry blossom tree also wears stunning pink and white flowers. They are common in the Northern Hemisphere. Asian countries, especially Japan, have lots of these trees.
- George Washington, the first President of the United States, is often linked with cherry trees. Legend has it that as a young boy, he admitted to chopping down his father's cherry tree, showcasing honesty and cherries' significance in American folklore.
- Cherry tree wood is also used in furniture making.
- Cherries boost brain health and are loaded with antioxidants.
Tips for Making the Drawing Easier
Although I've attached step by step tutorial in the post, beginner artists might still struggle to get it right the first time.
But that's the thing with drawing skills: practice makes perfect.
However, if your little artist needs assistance, step in before they become agitated. Kids quickly lose interest in things that seem too difficult to achieve.
A great way to help them is by showing them a reference image of a cherry. From the cherry leaves to the stem, show them detailed illustrations. Trust me; it works.
Some parents (and teachers) also draw the shape with light lines and encourage the kids to trace. Let them do it a few times until they're able to draw on their own. You can later erase the pencil lines.
Before you start drawing, we also want to make sure you have the right tools. Here are the drawing sheet of paper, and drawing pencils that we like to use.
How To Draw Cherries
Start by printing out the cherry drawing tutorial at the bottom of the post.
Cherry Stems
The first step is to start by drawing a curved line into an upside-down V shape. Then draw another v-shape and add a small top of the stem.
Cherries
The next step is to draw the cherries at the end of the stems. Start by drawing basic round shapes and then a small curve line at the end of the stem.
Next, draw a thin tube-like shape at the left top of the cherries. Add a small circle to the bottom of the tube.
Cherry Leaf
Next, draw a small leaf out of the upper part of the cherry stem.
The final step is to outline the cherries with a black marker on the final lines and erase any extra lines you had while sketching the cherries.
We think it's fun to color in your cherry drawing at the end with either crayons, colored pencils, or markers. We went with more traditional red cherries and green stems, but it's your drawing, so color to your heart's content.
