What is a Cube?
Before we explain a cube, we should first define a square shape. A square is a two-dimensional shape with four sides that are equal and four corners each with a 90-degree angle.
A cube also knowns as a cubic, is a box or block shape. It is a more complex object (3 D objects) than the square, but still one of the basic drawing shapes. In geometry, a cube is a three-dimensional object with six different square faces. Each with the same length and width and height.
A cube has 6 sides or faces with the same length and 12 edges. Each corner has a right angle which is 90 degrees. In these cube tutorials, we will refer to the different faces of the cube. The front and back faces, the right and left side faces, and the top and bottom faces.

One thing to note is that in this cube tutorial, the dotted lines represent the vanishing point of the shape. Meaning, you can draw a solid line, but know that those lines would eventually be erased if drawing a solid shape. Best to keep the pencil lines soft and able to be erased.
Grab a piece of paper, a pencil, and a ruler (optional) if you are looking for a straight edge when drawing three dimensional cubes. Here are the easy steps to how to draw a 3 D box.
3D Cube Drawing
The first step is to draw a square. Draw a straight vertical line on the right and then the left. Then two horizontal lines that are all the same length.
The next step is to draw a second square, the back face of the cube, up and to the right. This left side of the second square should be drawn through the center of the top of the front square and the bottom line should be drawn through the middle of the right side of the front face square.
The next step is to draw the right face of the cube. This is done with two diagonal lines drawn from the top right corner of the front face to the top right corner of the back face. Next is to draw a line connecting the right bottom corners.
The last two lines are the top and bottom lines of the left side face. These lines should give you diamond shapes for the top face and bottom face.
Drawing a Box
The final step is to erase the dotted lines of your drawn cube. From here I like to go over our hard pencil lines with a black marker. If you are looking for more of a 3 D effect, then another option is to make the dotted lines different colors than the solid lines.
Color in your cube with your crayons, pencils, or markers.
