As we make our way into Spring, we've been all about gardening over here. I thought this week we'd share with you a couple different garden's we've been working on at Diapers-n-Heels.
If you've been following us on Instagram, you know that there have been a lot of dirt happening. A few of the dirt projects we've been working on are:
- We've been finishing our simple garden box at our house and got the vegies set and going.
- There is the raised garden bed at DNH DIY Grandpa's house
- Deck Demolition day 2 that we are hoping to show you this week. Lots and lots happening.
First I thought I'd share with you how we built our
Simple Garden Box
First of course you should determine the space you'd like your garden. I've mentioned before I'm sure... maybe 100 times, that our house has this crazy lot with a good amount of land, but that it was taken over by cactus when we moved in. After clearing out as many cactus as we could, we decided that this little plot would be perfect for a garden.
Once you've determined the location, its good to clear out the space if its not already cleared out. We had to level the ground for the garden box.
Next step is to measure your space to determine the size of your garden box. After a rough sketch of our plan, we went down to Home Depot and bought our wood. We went with a height of two 2x6's.
We used a 3x3 for the corners of the garden bed at approximately 10-12 " length. We dug holes in the ground for the 3x3's to give it a foundation. If you're looking for some serious strength, you can pour a little concrete down with the 3x3's, but our box wasn't going any where, so simple hole was sufficient.
How cute is DNH DIY Grandpa??? Love him.
Once the sides were together and we determined where we'd want them, the it was time to complete the box.It was easier assembling with the box out from the space. We attached the sides and then moved it back to its space.
A few trips to the nursery and a few truck beds full of soil, we're on our way.
I simply added a drip tubing to an existing sprinkler to give the vegetables and herbs a little extra water. We're working on a few extra goodies for the sides and back of the garden box, but here is the finished product.
