Earth Drawing
As soon as a child learns to hold a pencil, the process of drawing starts. From drawing random lines and shapes, a child eventually starts drawing proper objects, like animals, the sun, planets, and their own characters.
When my kids started showing interest in drawing circular objects, I decided to teach them how to make our planet Earth. I started by helping them draw curved lines and took them through step-by-step instructions on making the various continents.
It wasn’t obviously a precise drawing of Mother Earth, but it was pretty close. As usual, after the first success with my kids, I decided to make a proper tutorial on how to draw the Earth. Therefore, if your kids are keen on learning how to draw Earth, here’s a free printable step-by-step guide just for them!
Benefits of Guided Drawing
If you want your kids to learn how to draw, the best practice is to encourage their hobby with guided drawing.
Guided drawing is beneficial for kids of every age to learn the basics of drawing a certain object. For instance, if they’re drawing the Earth, providing them with steps to make the proper spherical shape of the planet, and then adding the continents helps them understand how it works. Once they get the whole idea, they can continue from there using their own imaginations.
Apart from getting a basic idea of drawing, guided drawing or step-by-step drawing tutorials are a great way to develop cognitive learning skills. It also helps develop fine motor skills in kids and enhances hand-eye coordination.
You see, when a kid holds a pencil in their hand, looks at the steps of drawing, and tries to replicate it, their eyes and hands work together. As a result, they establish visual analysis and use it to guide their hands to draw the object. This coordination helps them focus and improves their concentration.

How To Draw The Earth Step By Step Tutorial
Here is the easy steps tutorial for an easy Earth drawing lesson!
One thing to keep in mind when starting to draw is the orient your paper. Because the Earth Drawing is a circle and equally wide as it is tall, you can have the paper in any direction you feel comfortable. Just keep in mind if you are planning on drawing anything around the Earth like if the Earth is going to be in Space, or someone holding it in their hands, or simply on its own.
Earth’s Surface
The first step is to draw a large circle. If you are wanting it to be a perfect circle, feel free to use a bowl or cup and trace it. This simple step is the Earth's surface.
The next step is to start with your first continent. Star with the basic shape of North America and then draw South America. Both land areas we drew with fairly smooth lines. You can also create a jagged line depending on how realistic you want it to look and the amount of detail you want to add. Our drawing tutorial is pretty simple.
Next, in the amazing drawing game, you are going to draw the outlines of the continents in the east. Europe, Asia, and Africa. Remember this is an easy step-by-step tutorial, so your lines can be simple and smooth or you can make intricate edges of the large land masses. We're going with simple shapes and simple steps.
The next step is a fun drawing element. We added another line following the land in order to give the ocean a little depth. Once you are satisfied with your drawing, we like to go over all the lines with a stronger pencil or with markers.
Viola, you have a beautiful drawing of Earth.
Color Your Earth
The last piece is to color in your Earth Drawing Easy. We went with a slightly darker blue on the open water outline. You could also add brown to the green blob otherwise known as land.
Some other fun ideas include drawing your earth on a larger scale and painting it. Or placing your earth in space and creating the solar system outside of the outline of your earth drawing.
