Have some Christmas fun with this cute Elf Craft for kids of all ages. Fun Christmas Construction paper craft with a free printable!
This Christmas Elf Craft is a fun paper craft that looks great on the Christmas tree, or as a decoration around the house during the Christmas season.
Having fun with Christmas crafts is one of our favorite things to do throughout the month of December. Whether it's with paper plates, popsicle sticks, cardboard tubes, or paper, like this paper elf craft. They are fun and the best way to keep little hands busy during the holiday season.
These fun crafts are also great for older kids. We love to show our kids these fun elf crafts and see what fun ideas they can come up with to add to their little elves. Gluing on candy canes to their feet as skis or turning them into elf puppets with craft sticks. The best ideas are ones that they think up to make their own elf dolls.

Christmas Elf
It is believed that elves do exist and according to most folktales, they are quite mischievous. Scandinavian tales have elves creating all kinds of commotion, not Christmas elves though, they are known as Santa’s little helpers!
This tradition, we think, began somewhere around the 1800s. The Christmas Elves help keep Santa’s workshop running smoothly so that all the toys can go out on Christmas Eve night.
They also help guard the North Pole and the workshop from humans. Instead of sneaking into homes and causing chaos, some elves help Santa with magical adventures.
When I imagine a Christmas Elf, I think of either the elves from The Santa Clause movies with Tim Allen (I am so excited to see the new elves in the series “The Santa Clauses”) or I think of Buddy the Elf aka Will Ferrel (this movie is so quotable and such a fun Christmas movie).
Both movies are watched yearly in my home! This elf craft would be one that kids will love and is something you could do together with family or friends, while you have Christmas movies on in the background.
Unique Christmas Crafts
Having not only unique ornaments on my tree but having an ornament that resembles an elf that one of my kids made would be a fun addition to our Christmas tree! Each person could have their own elf to decorate the tree with.
Many families participate in “Elf on The Shelf”...this craft could be a super easy way to either welcome the elf season or use it in the midnight games that your elf creates.
Around the holidays, I am at my craftiest and love for my kids to create as well. A Christmas craft like this will keep your kids busy while they are also having a lot of fun! My oldest daughter attends a holiday party with local homeschoolers and they love sharing craft ideas with each other - a craft like this Elf would be a fun addition to any holiday party.
Elf Around Your Home
These adorable Elf crafts can be used to sit on shelves as your own family’s “Elf on The Shelf”, used as crafty invites to a Christmas party, Christmas tree decor, or just fun crafts that are super easy for kids to create.
For those that decorate adult and children's tables during the holidays, the Elves could sit at a kid’s table as the children’s name holder, This would be a fun and festive addition to your holiday decor.
In a classroom setting, end-of-year focus can be tough to maintain, but this is a craft that not only will keep kids busy, but can help children learn about colors, use their gross motor skills, and learn fun Elf and Christmas facts.

How To Make An Elf
Elf Template Pieces
Grab the free printable template at the bottom of the post and cut out each of the template pieces.
Using a marker or pencil, outline each template on different colored paper.
Cut each of your pieces including.
Making Elf Body
For the light green piece of paper, the easiest way to make it into a cone is to take the top to corners and fold them over each other so that the top of the cone is in the middle of the top of the piece of paper. This should create a large triangle.
Once you have it in a cone shape, tape or glue the ends down. There will be a V shape at the back of the cone. Push the paper together at that point, you should cut the bottom of the cone straight across at the top of the V and that will allow the cone to stand up straight.
If your young children are having trouble with the cone piece of this craft, you can either do this step for them or can replace the cone with green paper cups.
Next, you are going to glue the large brown piece a third of the way down the cone. This will eventually b the elf's face.
The next step is to glue the dark green piece (the elf's hat) to the top of the brown piece of paper. And glue the white collar to the bottom of the brown piece.
Glue the yellow piece belt buckle to the middle of the long strip of black paper to create the elf's belt.
Glue the belt to the elf right below the white collar. Then glue each of the elf ears to the back of the cone. Remember elves have pointy ears, so make sure they are pointing up.
Elf's Face
This cute little elf has googly eyes. Glue them towards the top of the brown paper.
Using a marker, draw a simple smile for Santa's little helpers.
Last, but not least, glue a pom pom to the top of the elf hat. This can be any color, but we went for red!
We hope you enjoy this adorable elf craft as much as we enjoyed making it.
Merry Christmas.
