Did you know there are lots of different types of trees? One of the most famous ones is the coconut palm tree. Yep, you guessed it! It's the one that gives us yummy coconuts to snack on and even drink coconut water. But there are also other species of palm trees like the date palm, fan palm, and royal palm, each with its own unique look.

How To Draw a Palm Tree

The first thing is to start by printing out the palm tree drawing tutorial at the bottom of the post. Follow along with each step.

    Coconuts

    step 1 palm drawing

The first step is to start with three small circles.

    Palm Tree Leaves

    step 2 draw a palm

The next step is to draw the individual leaves out of the three coconuts. Start each palm leaf with a curved line on the top and a straight line on the bottom connecting the tips of the leaves. There are a few jagged lines like triangle teeth that go in towards the rounded end on the other side. This gives the large leaves their signature look. Draw four to five leaves around the top part of the coconuts.

    Palm Tree Trunk

step 3 draw palm tree trunk

The trunk of the palm tree and the tree in general are tall skinny trees. Start the top of the trunk on either side of the coconuts, then draw a vertical line down with a slight curve. Draw the other side of the trunk down also with a slight curve. Envision the palm tree slightly swaying in the breeze.

step 4 how to draw a palm tree

The next is to draw curved pattern of the palm trunk. Starting at the bottom, draw a curved line from the left side of the trunk to the bottom middle of the trunk. Then draw another curved line from the right side of the trunk down to the middle of the previous curved line. Then continue to draw similar lines alternating from side to side creating a sort of braid like pattern until you reach the top.

step 5 how to draw a palm tree

The last step is to grab a good eraser and erase any extra pencil lines. Trace over your final lines with a darker pencil or marker. Viola, you have your own cool palm tree drawing!

step 6 colored palm tree drawing

We of course love to color and so using crayons, markers or even paint, color in your easy palm tree drawing.

We hope you enjoy your palm tree as much as we enjoyed creating it with you.
