All About Jellyfish
Jellyfish are some of the most exciting animals in the ocean. They've been around for hundreds of millions of years (even before dinosaurs roamed the earth!) A jellyfish's body is fascinating. It’s made up of a soft bell and long tentacles. Drawing a jellyfish provides a fantastic opportunity to explore these unique characteristics and share fascinating facts about them with children.
With over 2,000 types of jellyfish in the world, each variety offers a new and exciting drawing opportunity. You can opt for a realistic jellyfish with intricate details or go for a cartoon jellyfish with exaggerated features for a bit of whimsy. Either way, each jellyfish step brings the kids closer to a finished piece of artwork that they can be proud of.
From the bell of the jellyfish to the trailing tentacles, each feature of a jellyfish is an opportunity to be creative. You can easily throw in facts about jellyfish as you go through each step too (google is your friend there). Then the drawing becomes more than just a picture—it becomes an interactive learning experience.
Why Opt for Guided Drawing?
Kids love to draw, especially if it’s the animals they see every day. Therefore, if you want to encourage your kids to polish their drawing skills, do it with my free printable tutorials.
The upside of opting for guided drawing is that it gives kids a basic idea of how to shape out a certain object. And once they have the basic shape sorted, the next step is to add the details. This is where their creativity shines! Plus, once the kids get the gist of how to draw an object, they can easily make art.
Besides this, a step-by-step tutorial is a great way to develop your kids’ interest in drawing. It helps them learn to hold a pencil to deliver the perfect stroke. Moreover, it builds fine motor skills, enhances hand-eye coordination, and improves focus and concentration.
When the kids have a tutorial in front of them, they focus on following the easy steps to make the perfect drawing, which is good for helping them concentrate and stay attentive.

Drawing is a wonderful skill to develop in children. It provides a creative outlet and aids in developing fine motor skills. Plus it gives a sense of accomplishment when they create a beautiful drawing of something as interesting as a jellyfish. It's a simple step towards developing a lifelong love for art and creativity.
Drawing a jellyfish provides an opportunity to learn about shapes, lines, and shading. Once the basic shape of the jellyfish's body is drawn, kids can add details to make the jellyfish come to life. This can be as complicated or as easy as they want.
The best part about drawing is the freedom to make it your own! After following the step-by-step instructions, children can add personal touches to their jellyfish drawings. They can experiment with different colors, add details like spots or patterns on the body of the jellyfish, or even create an underwater scene to give their jellyfish a home. The possibilities are endless!

Body of a Jellyfish
Start with drawing the bell of the jellyfish. Draw an arch at the top of the page and then make the bottom of the arch with a squiggly line.
Draw a similar squiggly line from the previous step below the first one and make it slightly shorter. then draw a small line from the end of the line up to the bottom of the jellyfish body.
Jellyfish Tentacles
When drawing the tentacles think of spaghetti-like legs coming out the bottom of the jellyfish body. We like to start on one side like the left side and draw a short tentacle. Then draw another tentacle slightly longer to the right.
Continue drawing the tentacles and varying in length and making them flowy.
Finish drawing the tentacles varying the lengths.
Jellyfish Face
Draw on oval shape drawing of eyes.
The last step is to draw in eye ball in the eye shapes and then a small smile. Brings your cartoon jellyfish to life!
Once you have your drawing exactly how you want it, we recommend tracing over all your lines with a sharp pencil. Then use markers, crayons, pencils, or paints and turn your drawing lesson into jellyfish art!
