Winter Indoor Activities
With as much time as we spend indoors during the winter months, we find it important to load up on all kinds of winter activities.
While we live in one of the warmer climates, there are still plenty of days that we end up stuck inside and I am always looking for fun things to keep the little hands busy.
Drawing, coloring, and art are some of the easiest to have on hand. Directed drawing step-by-step instructions are simple to have printed out and then all you need is a paper and pencil.

Snowman Drawing
There is something so iconic about a snowman during the wintertime.
Of course, many basic flat snowmen are drawn with perfect circles and a top hat, and corncob pipe.
Our winter friend is more of a cartoon snowman with a smiling mouth and basic shapes. We love the idea and encourage adding your own creative ideas to the drawing to make it your own!
We are sharing a complete step-by-step tutorial free printable at the bottom of the page. Don't miss it!
How to Draw a Snowman Step By Step
Body of the Snowman
The first step is to draw the base of your snowman. Draw a curved line in a large U-like shape at the bottom of your page.
Snowman's Head
The second step is to draw an oval shape at the top of your snowman’s body for the face. If you would rather your snowman have a round head, an easy way is to draw a circle instead of an oval.
Next, draw a half-oval shape on the top of the head. Draw an oval shape making it roughly the same width as the face. You can either complete the oval shape and then erase the part in the snowman's face or only draw it from one side of the face to the other like a crown. This is the base of the hat.
The next step is to draw the hat on top of the last half oval. This is first drawn like a small mountain shape on the top of the half oval. Making it roughly the same width as the half-oval. Then draw a small poof-like shape on the top of the hat.
Next, it is time to add the scarf to your snowman. First, draw a vertical rectangle off-center from the head of your snowman down half the bottom half of the snowman.
Then draw a line the same width as the rectangle right below the head, from one side of the base of the snowman to the other. Avoid a line through the long rectangle. To complete the scarf, add a smaller rectangle next to the longer rectangle coming off the line you drew across. This will create a scarf.
The last part is to add the arms, buttons, face, scarf, and stripes to your snowman's hat.
Snowman's Arms
For the arms, simply create stick arms from each side of the snowman. You can make them have as many or as few off branches.
Snowman’s Face
For the facial features, we went simple. Our snowman face was drawn with a simple triangle for the carrot nose and half-circles for both eyes and mouth.
Snowman’s Scarf and Buttons
The lines of the scarf start with one long rectangle off the neck. Then draw a simple line right under the snowman's head with the same curve shape to make the scarf across the neck, missing the rectangle. Then an additional rectangle only slightly smaller right next to the longer one.
For the buttons, simple circles under the scarf.
Lastly, the stripes on the crown of the hat. These are optional, but we love detail.
Viola, you have a snowman completed drawing.
Snowman Drawing Easy
What we love to do at this point is to outline the drawing with a black marker. From there, you can color in your drawing with crayons, pencils, or colored markers! Have fun with it!
