Beautiful Sunflowers
Sunflowers are some of the cheeriest flowers around, famous for their bright yellow petals and impressive height—some can even grow over 12 feet tall!
Named for their habit of facing the sun, sunflowers belong to the *Helianthus* family, meaning "sun flower" in Greek. Each sunflower head is actually made up of thousands of tiny blooms, which turn into sunflower seeds enjoyed by both people and animals.
Fun fact: real sunflowers come in more bright colors than yellow; some are red, orange, or even purple! These cheerful flowers symbolize happiness and loyalty, sunflowers are as fun to draw as they are beautiful to see.

How To Draw a Sunflower
First start by printing out the easy step-by-step tutorial at the bottom of the post. Follow along with the simple steps to create a beautiful flower.
One of the first things is to start by placing your paper in a vertical position. This means that the long edge of your paper should be running up and down. We want your flower drawing to have enough room for the stem, so we are having you start with your paper in the vertical paper position.
Center of The Sunflower
Start with a large circle as the center of a sunflower. If you like the look of a perfect circle you can always trace a cup or circular lid.
Sunflower Petals
Next, it's time to start drawing the sunflower petals. The first petal can start at any point on the outside of the circle. It has a curved line on one side and another slightly curved line on the other with the end of the petal shape being a sharp point. Continue drawing the petals around the inner circle till you meet up with the first petal. This creates the first layer of petals.
Sunflower Stem
Start drawing the stem out of the bottom of the sunflower. Draw a vertical line down and then another vertical line creating a thin stem of a flower.
Leaf Drawing
Draw a leaf out the side of the stem. I like to simplify the drawing with one leaf out the right side and then one slightly lower down the stem on the left side.
Once you have your drawing as you like it, erase any extra lines. Trace over your final lines in dark pencil, pen, or marker. Viola, you have your final drawing of a sunflower.
Lastly, grab your color markers, crayons, colored pencils, acrylic paints, or even watercolor paints and color in sunflower drawing.
