Having Fun with a Monster Craft

    Fancying the Fun Monsters

Making cute monsters is a fun way to make the kids help with holiday decor throughout the month of October. But that's not all. They'll also learn a lot along the way, like following instructions. It'll also work on their fine motor skills in the most discreet ways. They'll cut, they'll draw, they'll paste - all without complaining or getting distracted.

Here are some easy peasy ideas to dress up those fun monsters:

    • Use different-sized googly eyes or pom poms for a funnier look.
    • Use funky-colored yarn, think green, purple, orange, or yellow, to make fuzzy monsters.
    • Use pipe cleaners to make antennae or wiggly arms and legs.
    • Glue on some fake jewels for extra glitter.
    • Draw silly eyes and mouths with markers or crayons.
    • Use puffy paint to make crazy designs on the monsters' bodies.

    Using the Monster Craft

There are so many creative things you can do with your little one's silly monsters. Here are some ideas you won't want to miss:

    • Add name tags and send them as party invites.
    • Use a paper cup to make different colored monsters, fill them with candy, and give them away as monster treat bags.
    • Keep a small LED candle inside your monster and use it as a table accessory.

More Fun Monster Crafts to Try

Kids love monster stories and games. Believe it or not, they all (at some point) have an imaginary monster family as their backup buddies. So, why only make one monster simple craft, right? Let them have all the fun in the world with some of these monster craft ideas:

    • Make monster bookmarks with different colors of paper.
    • Craft up some silly monster finger puppets with toilet paper rolls and yarn.
    • Make paper bag monsters for their Trick or Treat adventure.
    • Create a monster blow art project with watercolors and a straw.
    • Use paper plates and craft sticks to make silly paint-smash paper plate monster puppets.
    • Use egg cartons to make egg carton monsters as tiny cupcake holders.
    • Try a paper cone monster craft to make some funny-shaped monsters to use as party hats.
    • Make Halloween party badges with a canning lid monster craft.
    • Turn these free printables into DIY Monster Box

Tips to Enjoy Crafting with Kids

Kids are kids. They can be stubborn about what they want and how they want. So, the secret to completing a fun craft project is to let them have their way. Plus, it's not an all-lose situation for you; seeing them all excited about their own monsters will be so much fun. They'll pretend play and tell monster stories to their heart's content.

However, only pick age-appropriate easy crafts for your boo. If it's too tricky, they'll give up soon. An easy craft makes for a fun activity for little fingers. Fun equals the best ideas when it comes to kid things.

As for this monster craft, you’ll find easy-to-follow instructions and the must-have supplies list at the bottom. If you have a tribe ready to craft, keep some extra supplies handy. It can get from fun to oh-no-what real quick!

How To Make Monster Craft Project

grab paper cup and scissors for monster

Start with a paper cup and scissors.

cut the lip off paper cup for monster craft

Cut off the lip of your cup. This is the part of the cup you drink from.

paint paper cup outside monster orange

Paint the outside of the paper cup orange.

cut orange yarn into 1 inch pieces

While the paint of your cup dries, cut a bunch of short pieces of yarn approximately an inch long. An easy way to do this is to wrap the yarn around two fingers a bunch of times. Pull the circle of yarn off your fingers and make a cut on each end of the circle.

glue yarn pieces to bottom layer of paper cup for monster

Start by placing a line of glue toward the bottom of the cup (where you cut), and then place the piece of yarn along the glue so it hangs off the bottom. Once you've made your way around the cup, add another layer halfway up the cup, and then a final layer at the top of the cup.

glue all the way to the top then cut two slits in top of cup

Using the end of the scissors, poke two slits into the top of the paper cup towards the outside.

    Monster Eyes

glue googly eyes to end of popsicle stick

Glue a googly eye to the end of a craft stick. Do this for two craft sticks.

place popsicle stick intro top of monster

Place each of your monster eye craft sticks into each of the slits at the top of your paper cup. If they are moving around, place some glue around the holes to secure them in place.

grab a piece of black paper and white paper

Grab a black piece paper as well as a piece of white paper. Cut out an oval shape for the monster's mouth out of the black paper, and cut small triangles out of the white paper as teeth.
