Ah, the new year… a time for fresh beginnings and new year’s resolutions (hopefully ones I can keep this time!) What are some of your new year's traditions, other than those pesky resolutions?

My family and I love to get together with some of our closest friends and family to eat, drink, laugh, and make memories. We pour some bubbly, watch the New Year’s Eve specials, play games, and laugh until our cheeks are sore. Then the ball drops and the countdown begins and we all ring in the new year.

Holiday traditions are always so important to us! While our family and friends celebrate the new year in January, we often forget that our Chinese friends and family celebrate the Chinese New Year in February to commemorate the Lunar New Year on the Chinese calendar.

Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year is pretty interesting! If you aren’t familiar with it, it’s the biggest holiday celebrated by Chinese people. I love that it signifies saying goodbye to the old and hello to the new. It also signals the beginning of spring and is referred to as the spring festival.

This 15-day festival is often celebrated with dragon dances, lion dances, gift exchanging, and fireworks. People wish each other good luck, happiness, and wealth in the new year.

On the second day, they give each other gifts in red envelopes to symbolize prosperity and happiness, and all gifts are always given in even numbers. Many times they celebrate with the lion or dragon dances.

The dragon is a symbol of Chinese culture and is believed to bring good luck to people. What better way to ring in the new year than with luck?!

This is such a positive and HAPPY celebration, you can involve your own littles in learning about this tradition and celebrate their learning with these dragon coloring pages!

We have found that the best way to stimulate creativity in children is to make it accessible to them. Start by printing out many coloring pages and a bucket full of markers or crayons and let them start coloring.

Dragon Coloring Pages For Kids

After learning all about the Chinese New Year, use this free printable to color and have your littles perform their own dragon dance! The dragon coloring sheets are perfect for perfecting your child’s or student’s fine motor skills. While practicing their grips on those colored pencils and crayons properly, they get to create a colorful dragon and can share fun facts they learned about the Chinese New Year with their friends and families.
