    Earth Day Craft For Kids

We love teaching our kids about our planet and being aware of our footprint and all the different ways we can help our planet. The only planet we have.We are a pretty eco-conscience family in that we share with our kids the importance of recycling, turning lights off when we're not in the room, and composting.

While discussing Earth Day, we came up with this fun activity for the kids that they had an absolute blast making! Here's how we made it.

    Supplies:

    yarn-earth-supplies
    • Different colored yarns - we did blues, greens, and browns
    • Wax paper
    • Elmer's White Glue
    • Scissors
    • Shallow bowl

    How to Make Earth Craft

    yarn-pieces

One of the first things is to start by cutting up about 10 pieces of yarn per color approximately 8-10 inches in length.

    Glue-Bowl

Fill your bowl with a cup or two of Elmer's White Glue. (P.S. The kids love helping with this part) Layout a piece of wax paper in front of each child. We found it easiest to start with a longer piece of yarn to create the outside circle.

    yarn-glue

Cover your piece of yarn with glue.

    dipping-yarn-glue

When you pull each piece of yarn out of the glue, have the kids run their hands along the yarn to get rid of excess glue. Place onto wax paper.

The yarn is pretty soggy, but make sure that each piece of yarn is touching another piece allowing for it to come together as one piece at the end.

We enjoyed talking about land and water and how sometimes the land is green and sometimes it's brown. We also talked about the ocean and how important it is to no throw our trash on the ground because it could make its way to the ocean. Lots of fun things to talk about while doing this project!

Let dry for at least 24 hours or more until it's completely dry. Remove from the wax paper and hang.
