Cinco de Mayo Celebrations
Cinco de Mayo translates in Spanish to the fifth of May. While some may think that the meaning of Cinco de Mayo or its significance is Mexican Independence Day, they are mistaken. Cinco de Mayo is the date of the victory of the Mexican army over the French army in the Battle of Puebla.
Over time, it has become more of a celebration of Mexican culture. The fun Fact is that it is actually less celebrated in Mexico and isn't even a federal holiday there. It is actually more celebrated in the United States and in metropolitan cities that have larger Latin Communities like Los Angeles, Denver, Miami, and New York City.
Cinco de Mayo celebrations include mariachi music which is traditional Mexican folk music, colorful decorations, and of course amazing food.
