Mother's Day Craft
While thinking up a fun little Mother's Day craft that the kids would have fun doing, I kept thinking about the Mother's Day picture I created last year. I absolutely loved the muffin wrapper idea and kept envisioning something freestanding. We have also loved giving this Mother's Day Pop Up Card too.
In any case, I thought up this little ditty, that the kids had a blast making.
Paper Crafts
There is something so simple about papercrafts. The kids love using simple supplies like a piece of paper to turn into a perfect flower craft like this. Added bonus is that with just a piece of construction paper, you can turn it into a sweet gift.
Colorful flowers with a picture of someone you love are always a great idea. This fun craft is not only a great project for young kids, but with the right photo in the center of the flower, this would make a fabulous gift for a parent or loved one any time of year.

How to Make A Gorgeous Flower Craft
We thought it would be fun to paint the pots and so I let the kids at it with the paints and paintbrush. I absolutely adore the beautiful colors they came up with.
Next, we worked on cutting a piece of Styrofoam to fit into the pot. in I used an x-acto, but a knife or scissors will do the trick. Just gives it a little more stability.
*If you are unable to find the seed starter pots, you could use egg cartons or mini terracotta pots.
Next, I went ahead and made a free flower printable template to make it easy for you. Simply download the template, then print it onto whatever color of flower paper you want. I went with pink, but yellow paper would be a great choice too.
Cut your flower out as well as the small circle at the bottom.
Print out one of Mom's favorite pictures of a stinking cute kid. I recommend printing a wallet-size picture onto a 4x6 piece of photo paper. Any bigger, the face will be too big and you're going to have a great nose picture on the inside of your flower.
The circle gives you a template for your picture. Using a pencil, trace the circle and then cut it out.
Assembling Your Beautiful Flowers
Next, you're going to attach the straw to the flower using the stapler. The straw is paper, so it will staple really easily. Straws or craft sticks make flower stems.
Next, attach one of the cupcake liner flowers to the paper flower over the straw. If you're super coordinated and want to staple them both at once, go for it. It's not necessary because the picture covers the staples and so you'll never see them.
Using some glue, apply it to the back of the picture and then onto the muffin wrapper. A dab of glue will do.
Cute flower picture right?
The last step is to cover the foam and push the second muffin wrapper into the bottom of the pot.
Using the scissors, make a small hole in the middle of the wrapper, and then poke your straw down into the pot and into the foam.
I added some gumballs to the pot to give it a little weight. If you're using small terracotta pots, you won't need to weigh them down. And that my friends are a fun, simple mother's day craft that is all kinds of HAPPY.
