Hi friends and HAPPY Mother’s Day Week. Yep, we get a week! Its the least we can do seeing as we all gave life. 🙂 While I was thinking up a fun little Mother’s Day craft that the kids would have fun doing, I kept thinking about the mother’s day picture I created last year. I absolutely loved the muffin wrapper idea and kept envisioning something freestanding. In any case, I thought up this little ditty, that the kids had a blast making.
All simple supplies where most can be bought at the Dollar Tree. SCORE!
- 1 piece of colored paper (8.5″ x 11″)
- 2 muffin wrapper
- 1 green paper straw
- white glue
- a small piece of floral foam
- small pot (I used seed started pots)
- 1 picture of cute kid
- colorful candy, marbles, rocks – anything to give the pot a little weight
- paints (optional) to paint the pots
We thought it would be fun to paint the pots and so I let the kids at it with the paints and paint brush. I absolutely adore the beautiful colors they came up with.Next we worked on cutting a piece of Styrofoam to fit into the pot. I used an x-acto, but a knife or scissors will do the trick. Just gives it a little more stability.Next, I went ahead and made a free printable template to make it easy on you. Simply download the template, then print it onto whatever color flower paper you want.
Cut your flower out as well as the small circle at the bottom.Print out one of Mom’s favorite pictures of stinking cute kid. I recommend printing a wallet size picture onto a 4×6 piece of photo paper. Any bigger, the face will be too big and you’re going to have a great nose picture in the inside of your flower. The circle gives you a template for your picture. Using a pencil, trace the circle and then cut it out.Next you’re going to attach the straw to the flower using the stapler. The straw is paper, so it will staple really easily.Next attach one of the muffin wrappers to the flower over the straw. If you’re super coordinated and want to staple them both at once, go for it. Its not necessary because the picture covers the staples and so you’ll never see them.Using some glue, apply to the back of the picture then onto the muffin wrapper.Cutest flower EVER right? The last step is to cover the foam and push the second muffin wrapper into the bottom of the pot. Using the scissors, make a small hole in the middle of the wrapper and then poke your straw down into the pot and into the foam. I added some gumballs to the pot to give it a little weight. If you’re using small terracotta pots, you won’t need to weight it down. And that my friends is a fun, simple mother’s day craft that is all kinds of HAPPY.
Let me know if you decide to make one and how it looks. HAPPY CRAFTING and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
