What is a Pumpkin?
Pumpkins are in the squash family and are native to North America. They've been grown for thousands of years for their seeds. After it seeds, the squash resembles a butternut squash, except that the outside is thicker and browner.
Why do we eat pumpkin seeds? Pumpkin seeds are more powerful than any other seed. There are millions of varieties of seeds available in the U.S.
Some pumpkin seeds are small and have white seeds, while others have larger seeds with red spots. There is even a yellow pumpkin seed.
It takes 40 days for them to germinate. During this time, they grow underground as shallow, green, spear-shaped roots. The pumpkin grows from the top. As the fruit develops, the root dies and is turned into dust, and the seeds are released.

Life Cycle of the Pumpkin
The life of a pumpkin is pretty interesting. It all starts when someone plants tiny pumpkin seeds in the soil during the spring. These seeds need the right amount of sunlight, water, and care to grow into strong plants. As the days get warmer, the seeds sprout, and little pumpkin plants pop up from the ground. It's important to protect them from pests and bad weather.
Next comes the flowering part. Pumpkin plants have big, yellow flowers that attract bees and butterflies. These little pollinators help the flowers make baby pumpkins by moving pollen from boy flowers to girl flowers.
Once that happens, tiny green pumpkins start to grow. They get bigger and turn orange, just like we see them in the fall. With some time and care, the pumpkins grow up and are ready to be picked when autumn arrives. So, pumpkins have a pretty cool journey from seed to a big, orange pumpkin!
