Kids just love making anything butterfly-related! That is why this paper butterfly craft is such a simple craft and is perfect for easy art projects at home.
This is probably one of the easier butterfly crafts and the outcome is really that it does make cute little butterflies! This is one of my favorite spring crafts for kids because it allows them to not only be creative but get to work on their fine motor skills, too. Add this to your list of craft ideas for the spring!

Butterfly Craft for Kids
Truth be told, there are a lot of ways that you can make butterflies at home. Even though I'm a fan of the simple tutorial below, don't be afraid to use other resources that you have at home as well.
Used toilet paper rolls make perfect butterfly bodies and empty egg cartons are great for ahead, as well. You can even have the kids color pieces of paper to give the wings a fun and funky stained glass butterfly look or use some washi tape to add some quick and easy color, too.
Pipe cleaners just so happen to make the best antennas for butterflies, too! (and coffee filters are great for wings as well!)
We've made several tissue paper butterflies in our day where we took tissue paper and clothespins and created something that really does resemble a butterfly.

I've also recently discovered that paper plates and plastic spoons butterflies are a thing also. This just goes to show you that you can literally use so many great supplies in your own home to make some truly epic craft projects!
Ways to play with this butterfly craft
What the kids really love about this simple butterfly activity is that it's actually one that they can play with as well. Since it's created to look like a butterfly with a handle to hold it, it automatically then doubles into a puppet just as easily. This means that the kids will be able to use their creativity and imagination at the same time, which is truly something beautiful!

Supplies Needed For Butterfly Puppet
- Colored craft papers
- Glitter papers (optional)
- Craft glue
- Sharpie
- Popsicle sticks
- Pencil
- Scissors
How to Make Butterfly Craft
Select different colored craft papers for the butterfly paper craft. Trace the template patterns on the selected colored craft papers and cut them out nicely. You can also use colorful glittery papers for the small patterns.
Grab the wing pattern and attach the small wing patterns inside the main wing.
Glue and attach the 2 antennas on the top side of the body pattern. Attach the body pattern along the middle part of the wing pattern.
Glue the smallest wing pattern cutouts inside the previous patterns. I’m using glittery papers for the smallest patterns.
Attach the paper butterfly craft to a popsicle stick to complete the craft.
Use different colored craft papers for variation.
