Colors Of The Rainbow In Order
One of the biggest questions we get when it comes to rainbows is what are the different colors of the rainbow?
When we were little there were 6 rainbow colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple. This has since changed and there are now officially 7 colors of the rainbow. Those are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. Basically, the color purple is now broken into two distinct colors. Dark purple which is indigo and violet which is lighter purple.
That is the order of the colors in the specific order from the top of the arc (red) to the bottom (violet). You may also see the order of the rainbow in the mnemonic device ROY G. BIV. That is the first letter of each of the colors in order to remember it easier.
That is why you will often see rainbow patterns with either six or seven colors represented.

How To Draw A Rainbow Step By Step Tutorial
Here is the easy steps tutorial for an easy rainbow drawing lesson!
First, orient your paper horizontally. This means the longer end of your paper is at the top and bottom. This will allow for the large rainbow drawing to take up most of the paper.
Inside Arch
The first step in free hand drawing a rainbow is to draw a curved line creating a half circle. This will be the inside line of your rainbow. You then draw another curved line around the following the same curved line as the one underneath it. This will create two parallel curves.
The second step is to continue to create half circle ecurved lines moving out from the first line. If you imagine there is an invisible horizontal line running at the bottom of your rainbow, this is where the ends of the rainbow lines should end.
Continue to create lines moving out and creating a full rainbow. You will want to make sure you have 7 or 8 lines to make sure you have room for each rainbow gradient color.
Drawing Clouds
The last step is to create small clouds on each end of your rainbow. There are different methods for clouds. We created ours with the rounded edges of the cloud towards the rainbow and the bottom of the clouds was flat with a horizontal line. You can also make the cloud shapes more round and billowy by creating curved lines around both sides. Either will look great.
The last step once you have your rainbow drawing is to grab your favorite markers and color your rainbow in with whatever rainbow pattern you prefer.
Viola, you have a beautiful rainbow. You can even add your own pot of gold for St. Patrick's Day and throughout the month of March!
